Dr Menin & his wife are doing another sponsored swim for MacMillan Cancer Support!!

Once again Dr Menin & his wife Alison are going to do a sponsored  swim.

This time they are taking on the challenge of heading to EAST SUSSEX (they know how to push themselves) to take part in a 2K swim organised by Macmillan. Not quite as arduous as the Great North swim but with maturity comes knowledge and understanding..
We would love you to sponsor Macmillan, who continue to do such amazing work over the whole country, by making a donation through their Just Giving website. However, as arranged two years ago, any money raised separately will go to Oakhaven Hospice.

Please see their Just Giving page by clicking here

Put Patients First - Back General Practice

At Waterfront & Solent Surgery we support the work being done by the Royal College of General Practitioners and their "Put Patients First" Campaign.

What’s the issue?
General practice is facing a growing crisis, as it struggles to provide the care needed by an increasing patient population. Ballooning workloads, declining resources and an overstretched workforce are placing huge strain on services that remain the first point of contact with the health service for most of the UK public.
This is bad news for patients, who face longer waits for appointments to see their GPs and a lower level of care than their GPs want to provide. Too often non-urgent care is being provided in our hospitals, at great expense, when most people want to be looked after in their local community.
In response, the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) and the National Association for Patient Participation (N.A.P.P.) have launched Put patients first: Back general practice – our campaign to improve patient care by increasing funding for general practice from 8.39% to 11%of the UK NHS budget by 2017.

We need your help!
Your help will be vital to reversing the decline in resources invested in general practice so that GPs can deliver the improvements to care we want to achieve.
We need your ideas and involvement so that together we can make a difference to patient care:
1. Read about the crisis in general practice and our case for change
2. Read about our vision for patient care
3. Take action to support our campaign
4. Stay informed and join in the conversation:

Data Sharing opt out forms.

Following our recent email a couple of weeks ago and the press and media coverage about data sharing, several patients have been asking to be "opted out" of data sharing.

It is extremely important the proper opt out forms are used and so we have added them to our data sharing page on the website for ease of access.

They can be found here

Confused about NHS Data sharing?

This week at home I received, along with a host of other junk mail, a leaflet from the NHS entitled "Better information means better care". As a GP, and one with a special interest in medical information technology, I was aware this was coming. However, when it arrived its fair to say that I was disappointed in its "junk mail" format and that it only seems to confuse the issue of electronic sharing of information yet further.
So far, over the last year, we as patients have received letters about the Hampshire Health Record, the Summary Care Record, and now this Care.Data information.

In order to try to clarify NHS Data Sharing for our patients, I have written a page on our website providing a summary of these data sharing systems, with links to more detailed explanations. I hope this will help you understand the systems better. The web page can viewed here:

New Computers - Warning of possible disruption!

As you all know by now, computers are an absolutely essential part of General Practice. This week many of our older machines are going to be replaced. This means there will inevitably be some disruption to our service. Please bear with us while we go through this essential process.
We will be affected the week beginning 20th January and the disruption will last about 1 week.
